Sex toys for couples, and how to choose the first one.

The right first sex toy for most couples is a small, waterproof, body safe silicone toy that one partner holds, paired with a water based lube. The Satisfyer Pro 2 covers that for about $50. The buying framework.

Six questions, in the order they usually settle the decision.

First toy. If neither of you has used a toy before, buy a held toy rather than a wearable. A held toy has nothing to fit, one partner controls it precisely, and it costs less. If it turns out you both want the toy worn during sex, you will know that after a month, and the wearable will be a confident second purchase instead of a hopeful first one.

Waterproof. Insist on it, even if showers are not the plan. A waterproof toy can be washed under a tap, which is the whole cleaning routine. Look for "waterproof" or an IPX7 rating, not "splashproof". Remotes and phones stay dry.
